My first thought after reading the recent Mobile Press write up about the new local book Old Mobile Restaurants...Gosh, this would be a great giveaway for my readers! I am so thrilled that Malcolm Steiner, the author of Old Mobile Restaurants, has agreed to giveaway one of his signed books. This book would be a perfect addition to anyone's book collection. About Old Mobile Restaurants:
The first capital of the new, French colony called Louisiana was Mobile founded in 1702. Mobile Alabama served as the economic and political center of the colony for many years. Mobile is home to the first Mardi Gras in America and has played a key role in American-food History. This early French Capital also brought the regions first trained baker, chef and a love of food that makes Mobile the home of many culinary delights and traditions. My grandfather used to own the Silver King on the Causeway back in the 1940's, my greatmother was a waitress at Constintens...So much family history in Old Mobile restaurants!!

I would love this book.
My grandmother used to work at the old Korbets Restaurant at the Loop. She was a hostess there and I have wonderful memories of it. My mother and father had their wedding reception there, too! I would love to learn more about the history of other restaurants in Mobile.

I love Big Time Diner. It is so delicious. I would love to have this book to read about Mobile's history of food and restaurants. I have always enjoyed reading about history of towns, especially the one I live in.
I'm not sure it is in the book, but I have the fondest memories of Eight Kings and Weichmans(sp). My Grandmother used to take me and my sisters there all the time. Old leather chairs and the best food in the world. Weichmans(sp) had the best Mud Pie. And all your sides came in it's own little bowl, great for a little kid who didn't want their food to touch!

I have lived here all my life and I think Mobile has some of the greatest restaurants around. Some of my favorites include the Old Dutch Ice Cream Shop and Big Time Diner. I also loved eating at the Little Kitchen when I worked downtown!
I am originally from Foley, but since moving to Mobile about 10 years ago, I have found some of the best restaurants. Mama's kitchen on Dauphin Street has some of the best homecooked meals and at an excellent price - I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes.

I reaaly want to win a copy of this book....it sounds fabulous!!! I have many personal memories of local favorites long gone...late dinners at Korbet's after opening night of plays waitng for the first reviews to come in from the newspaper...having fancy dinners at Constantine's with my extended family...getting a fishbone stuck in by throught at the Sea Ranch on the causeway...a scoop of "Blueberry Gems"icecream at Od Dutch with my Pop after painful trips to the dentist...the unbelievable milkshake list at Mac's Drive-In on Springhill...The Rebel drinks and dip-tops at Rebel Queen..silver dollar pancakes on Sundays at The Pancake House...my memory list list just goes on and on!! I hope I win!!!

I have many memories of restaurants here in Mobile, but I especially loved Korbets. It will always remind me of my grandparents who took me there on special occasions. I would LOVE to have a book that recounts the history of Mobile through food.

I am a Mobile resident for the past 19 years... we moved here from Louisiana, since I have many New Orleans cookbooks, I would LOVE to have a Mobile Cookbook to add to my collection. I love cookbooks, to me they are great "reading" material.. and I "Luv to cook"!! My favorite restaurant was Rousso's... so sad that it closed ;-( Our Grandchildren miss it too!

I must say the Dew Drop Inn! My family still has to go eat there whenever they come in town! It never gets old:). I would love to win because I am very interested in learning more about Mobile's history. I have a chef husband also that could benefit from knowing more about the old restaurants.
My favorite is the Bakery on Dauphin street. I think we have some great restaurants here in Mobile. Would love the cookbook:)

I remember eating at Ben's on the causeway when I was a little girl- prior to Hurricane Fredrick- I think that's when it was wiped out. I loved the scallops! Mobile has such history- I love being from here! WE love to travel- but Mobile is home! I would use this book in addition to our homeschooling about Mobile and it's rich history! I hope I win!!

My husband grew up here and collects many Mobile antiquities including Mobile bottles (he digs them from the old outhouses on properties w/permissions) and he is President of the Antique Bottle Club, old Mobile papers like steamboat ladings certificates, old china plates including Bellingrath and souvenir plates from the 1940's, old Mobile books, tokens, and many more things. Our favorite restaurant was Korbets and Wintzell's. We would love to add this to our growing obsession!
The Banana Docks is my family's favorite! What a fabulous local place to eat!!
This book would be an amazing way to learn more about local restaurants- I've only been in Mobile for only a couple of years, so I would LOVE to learn more about this great city that we love to live in!!

I remember going to Fletcher's, Korbets, and The Pillars(prior to new owners) growing up.
My family and I are somewhat new to the area. We have enjoyed all of the wonderful restaurants in the Mobile area. I would love to own this book in order to share Mobile's rich history with family and friends who come to visit from out of town.

Oh my gosh - growing up in Mobile there are so many old favorites that have gone now. I'm trying to remember the name of the place we always went for special occasions ... it's escaping me right now. But from the hot dogs at Dew Drop to seafood at Winzells and Blue Gill, to special nights at the Pillars, Mobile has such a rich history and this looks like a fun book to reminisce an explore.

I remember the old Constantine's restaurant, and Rousso's when it was in the location that has been Lewis Advertising for years. I would love to have this book to remember and learn more about our history of great restaurants

I have a lot of good memories of eating at various restaurants in Mobile. Sounds like this book has a lot of rich history of Mobile, and I think it is very interesting to know about restaurants that have stood the test of time. Some of my favorites are The Dew Drop Inn and Wintzells.

I have so many wonderful memories of
eating at various restaurants with my
parents. We often went to The Chicken Box at the Loop. I remember
how much I loved the mini jukebox that sat on the tables! We also ate at Morrison's when it was downtown.
Another favorite was Palmer's on the causeway.
From what I can tell, this book will bring back many memories. I think it's great that someone has researched and created such a book.
I love Ed's Seafood Shack! I know its not actually in Mobile but close enough, right?!
