Buying Meat on a Budget
Here's a breakdown of best meat sale prices for this week. I tend to buy meat when on sale, package in Ziploc bags 3-4 pieces each, then freeze. My favorite sale is when pork loins go on sale for $1.99/lb and I load up on chops and roasts. I will purchase leg quarters this week at Publix to freeze.
CHICKEN:
Chicken Leg Quarters, .59/lb Publix
Chicken Thighs and Drumsticks, .89/lb Winn Dixie
Split Chicken Breast, Grade A $0.99/lb Winn Dixie
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast $1.99/lb Food World
PORK:
Assorted Pork Chops, $1.49/lb Winn Dixie
BEEF:
Boneless Chuck Roast, USDA, $1.99/lb Winn Dixie
Do I ever find coupons for meat? Occasionally. Many times the meat coupons are tied to other items--WYB-when you buy Glad straws get $6 off pork, etc...The coupons do exist and when available they are HOT. Coupons for lunchmeat are regulars.

Gold and Plump(chicken) does post coupons for meat on their website here. You can find this brand at Target. In the past, I have purchased chicken at great prices while on sale using their coupons.
Target has a couple meat coupons available here. Including one for Sutton Dodge steakhouse beef.
While we are on the subject let's discuss--Buying Clearance Meat:
You know the meat with the red tag for $1+ off for a quick sale. At Food World and Bruno's this is a common practice. When I first began couponing, I did try this a couple of times. Got some great buys...Unfortunately, when I went to thaw the meat it would smell or look bad so I tossed it. I gave up on clearance meat, now buying sale meat. I just do not take a chance with it. NOTE: MANY readers purchase clearance meat often! They suggest using the meat right away or freezing it as soon as you get home. Best time to check is in the mornings.
Manager's Specials:
I always swing by the end of the meat department at Publix to check out the manager's specials. Might want to check that out too.

Sam's Club has the most consistent prices on meat. This morning I bought 2 flank steaks at $3.84 per lb. Compare this to the $7+ at most other stores. The baby backs are usually in the $2.77/lb range, today regular ribs were I think $1.37/lb. Porterhouse steaks yesterday were $5.98 but were marked down to $4.98. I also like to buy the whole tenderloins when they are on special ~ $7/lb and then age them for a few weeks in the fridge before breaking them down and vacuum sealing them.
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast at Sam's are $1.77lb... and have been for a while.
I have a request for you please. I like how you listed the different stores sales on meat and what you consider a good price to be. I would like to know if you could do this every week? very helpful info
