Publix 101--The Basics

Remember if you have a question is it always a good idea to ask customer service.

Local policies as of 10/19 (subject to change). Each Publix store coupon policy may vary based on local manager's discretion.

HOW TO GET THE BEST DEALS AT PUBLIX-The Coupon Basics

1. BEST DEALS ARE B1G1s or sale items: You do not have to buy 2 of the B1G1 items to get the sale price.
Items ring up 1/2 and 1/2 (Fairhope and Orange Beach).
Example--Chips are $2.00 on sale B1G1. So first bag will ring up $1, and second bag will ring up $1. I could just buy 1 bag and they still would be $1.

2. COMPETITOR COUPONS: Publix in Fairhope and Orange Beach accept competitor coupons(Target, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, local grocery stores including Bruno's, Winn Dixie).

3. STACKING: You can use ONE PUBLIX/or competitor coupon and ONE manufacturer coupon per ONE item. So, a max of TWO coupons(one manufacturer and one store coupon) per item. This is called stacking.

4. DOUBLES: Orange Beach and Fairhope Publix locations do NOT double manufacturer coupons. Some Publix stores do double coupons that are .50¢ or less.

5. DRUGSTORE COMPETITOR COUPONS: Fairhope location will accept drugstore coupons as competitors(CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid). Orange Beach will accept drugstore coupons. These coupons must be actual cents or dollars off of a product. No price matching "coupon". You can read more here.
Now this may be helpful if you happen to receive a $5/30 or even a $10/50 at CVS. These CVS coupons are found on the bottom of your receipt, CVS emails, or price scanners where you can scan your CVS card for additional coupons. THEY DO NOT TAKE CVS ECBs. ONLY $5 off purchase amount coupons.

Walgreen's Rebate Rewards, which are manufacturer coupons printed at the register are also accepted. You can use these to pay!

6. USING $/$$ OFF COUPONS: (Spend $30, Get $5 off). Only allowed to use one $/$$ at the Fairhope store. The Orange Beach Publix store will accept ONE $/$$ coupon from local drug stores/local grocery store AND one from Publix. Check the list below for current $ off.
Remember always hand these coupons to the cashier first and then your other coupons.
Rolling list of $/$$ offs HERE!

7. FINDING PUBLIX COUPONS: Publix coupon books are usually located in the front of the store or at the customer service counter. These include Advantage Buy flyers(Yellow and Green), Grape magazine, Family Style, etc...Register online at publix.com for their many Clubs & Programs(more coupons in the booklets you receive at home).

8. RAINCHECKS: If Publix is OUT of an item ask for a rain check. Expires in 30 days.

Does Publix accept more than 2 of the $5/$25 coupons. I have 2 from CVS and 2 from Rite Aid.

This only applies to the Fairhope location--You can use more than one as long as your order total qualifies. If you wanted to use four $5/$25 your order total would need to be over $100 before coupons.

I live in Pensacola and was told last thursday that I had to buy 2 items to get the B1G1 free price. Do you happen to know where I can find out if this is true or not. For some reason I don't think the cashier is right??????

I live in Gulf Breeze (Florida) and the Publix here does not allow you to only buy the one item for the B1G1 free ½ price. I was told that none of the Publix stores in Florida allow the split of B1G1 free items, so we're out of luck here in Florida.

Does Publix accept moneymakers??? In other words if I have a coupon that will cause the total to be positive will they take it off my total?

I have had an issue my last two trips to Publix in Florida with them accepting coupons. The Publix on Nine Mile Road told me last week that they would only accept one $off$$ or one Walgreen coupon for an order. Then the new Publix on Mobile highway this week told me that the $ off $$ coupon had to be rung up last so your order after coupons had to be over the set dollar amount. I guess it is back to Fairhope. The Mobile Highway store is not very nice anyways.

I work at Publix and have been in the grocery biz for many years and have NEVER seen a BOGO where you could only buy one and get it half off. If it say Buy One Get One Free, that is what it means. If it says Half Off that is what it means. It is common sense, but if you have coupons for BOGO items you can use a coupon for each item including the free item.

Jenny42,
Publix stores ring up differently in different areas. Do you work in FL? In FL, yes, there they do ring up full price and $0. But in Alabama B1G1 items ring up 1/2, 1/2. I'm sure you could ask your district manager and he would explain it to you.
